Ecclesiastes 7: 3-4, “The House Of Mourning”
By: Eric Gajewski
TWO HOUSES (GOD VS. MAN) And how being angry over sin is better than laughter
It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to the house of feasting: for in that we are put in mind of the end of all, and the living thinketh what is to come. [4] Anger is better than laughter: because by the sadness of the countenance the mind of the offender is corrected. [5] The heart of the wise is where there is mourning, and the heart of fools where there is mirth.
[4] “Anger”: That is, correction, or just wrath and zeal against evil.
We have all been told at one point or another just how good laughter is for the mind, body and soul and although I do believe this to be true we must be careful not to fall into laughter’s net consistently. We have had wonderful Saints who certainly had a great sense of humor like St Neri but in this hour wherein the walls are seemingly closing in on us never forget that it is through repentance’s sorrow that we have the hopes of ascending Love’s Ladder.
